Researching the immigration conflict in The Valley of Longevity.

Our program is centered in and around Vilcabamba, a town in southern Loja, Ecuador, renowned as the “valley of longevity,” where many locals are said to live well beyond 100 years. Following a surge of international attention in the 1990s, the once-quiet town experienced an influx of tourists and foreign settlers, leaving local communities grappling with rapid social and environmental change. Since 2010, POF has partnered with residents to study these transformations and co-develop strategies for sustainable development. We aim to help preserve Vilcabamba’s distinctive way of life—rooted in deep respect for natural rhythms and ecological balance.
